Couple of questions re: 1954 gmc 100

Hi all,

I notice that in most photos of GMC 100s, the lettering in the hubcaps is red - but mine are painted white. Should they be red or was white original on a '54 100 Deluxe?

Also - my truck did not come with a jack or any tools (ex: lug wrench) - what would have come from the factory? Bottle jack and a tool roll? Are original tools/jacks hard to come by?

Can't say for sure on a GMC but as I remember the jack on a Chevy was a screw type and had a handle that hinged in the middle. The jack was held in one corner of the cab with what looked like a short piece of screen door spring. Jack handle was an "L" bent rod with a 3/4 socket hole on one end and tapered to remove hubcap on the other. If you PM Joe at Dead Zone trucking he probably has everything and for sure can tell you what they had.

Not sure on the red lettering vs the white on the Hub Caps. I believe the 1954 GMC being unique was the only one with white lettering. The 47-53 had the red lettering. Now since you have the sweet chrome front I would assume you would have the chrome hub caps with the white lettering.

By the way your truck looks sweet! What engine are you running?

Yep - I did some research, and '54 came with white lettering on chrome - which is what I have on all 5 wheels (incl side mount spare).

The motor is the original 248 (see pics) with about 2300 miles since being rebuilt. Pretty much completely stock except for a pair of Fenton headers feeding dual exhausts and hardened valve seats to accommodate unleaded gas (runs great on regular unleaded!).
