I've gone over to the dark side!

Hey Ken

I`ll gues it makes you proud to have a truck that is so well kept and has belonged to your dad! Is it stiff to drive or have you done some modifications to meet modern driving standards ? Anough enginepower , thats for shore!

Good luck and take care Martinius.

Hey Martinius, the suspension is 99% original. The diff has '48 gears in it, but still retains the 4:11 gear ratio. Made it a perfect drag racing setup in '58. Here's a couple of pics of dad racing it in El Paso, Tx back in the day!

It has one of those chrome beehive filters mounted on the passenger's side of the firewall. I'm pretty sure it is a bypass filter because one side of the filter is plumbed into a T that connects to the block near the distributor. The other side of the T connects to the oil pressure gauge. I didn't follow the output from the filter, but I'm guessing it dumps back into the pan.

Ken hasn't given any more hints about the tail lights, so I'll give you the hints he gave me when I guessed '59 Olds. He said I was off by a corporation and a year. My next guess was correct.

Nice truck Ken.

The 1st gen '55 sbc didn't have an oil filter boss cast into the block, they changed that in '56. Does yours have the dealer installed oil filter canister? Just curious.

Thanks for posting about your dad's truck Cool story!

John

Oops, sorry John. Yes it has a oil filter canister mounted, like Bill said, on the passenger side firewall. Takes a NAPA 1004 element.

Jealous !

That you had (apparently) the coolest Dad ever .

My dad came to town for his 90th B-Day Saturday and he rode in my '69 C/10 for a few days.... poor old Pops .

What a great looking Truck Ken, would be nicer to see a ROUSH or '04Lightening in it.

Unfortunate, but true! I am now the proud owner of a, dare I say it, F*%d PU! Before you guys ban me for life from this forum, let me explain! It's my dad's 1934 Ford truck that he bought in 1954! Most of you have seen it on occassion on this forum. I'm not totally tainted because it has had a CHEVY Corvette engine in it since 1957.

Guys, what a thrill it is to have this truck. For those who haven't seen it or read about it, let me bore you real quick. I was born in April of 1954 and dad found this truck in a barn 2 months after I was born. He bought it and the rest is history! He had it painted in Denver, CO. in '55 and put the vette engine in it in '57. It still wears the original paint from '55 and still has the 1st generation vette engine in it!

A little history about the engine. It is a '55 Corvette block, 265 cu. in. with '57 283 high compression heads. Elgin cam (Santa Rosa speed shop started in '57, still in business today). Modern upgrades (as of 2 months ago) include a 1403 Endelbrock Performer Series 4 bbl carb, Lokar cable throttle, and Pertronix ignition. This bad boy runs like a scoulded ass ape!

Here's a few pics of my best friend since I was old enough to remember anything!

Nate, I'd give up both of my trucks just to hear his voice again and be able to say "Hey Dad, whatcha working on this week?" He was my hero, my best buddy and he taught me at an early age the difference between "right" and the burn of leather against my dumb, tender ass! I just hope that I can be half the dad and grandpa he was!

Fathers

He's riding shotgun with you every day Ken ,he did a good job and as I said , you're very lucky to have had him .

I've tried very hard to be this sort of father to my son , so far it looks like I've succeeded , we're close as peas in a pod :) .

Thanks for sharing Ken

Wow , these original pics from the 50 tees are great. Do you know the track location as it looks like some sandy flats ? It looks like he is waiting and pumping up his adrenalin and ready to race !

Ken told me those two pictures were taken at a drag strip in El Paso Texas around 1958. There have been a number of strips in the El Paso area over the years, so I sent the pictures to a guy in El Paso that has been familiar with racing there and am waiting for a response.
