    Temp gauge Troubleshooting.

There is one thing you can do if all else fails; use a 1955 gauge. Chevy didn't go to an electric sender till 1956 so the 55 still uses the capillary tube and the two are completely interchangeable. When you are doing the hot water test do you have a ground to the body of the gauge?

    Flywheel mark

Nate, A FiTech unit is an EFI throttle body type injector set up. They have recently come out with a unit for inline 4 and 6 cylinder engines up to 400hp. After FiTech's success Edelbrock and Holley have also jumped on the band wagon. We have had very good results with the FiTech unit and it...

Wiper Conversion Kit for 1951 Chevy Truck

You can use a modern "anti-sail" type wiper but it takes a bit of fabrication. First the wiper blade has to be shortened to the same length as the factory blade. This usually involves making a new way to clamp the cut off rubber in place. Next the wiper arm has to be grafted together so you have...

    Worn out rear shackle bracket/hanger

I don't see where you are located. We remove the shackle brackets on a regular basis to install a 4 link or ladder bar set up and sometimes an independent rear suspension. Should have a set of unworn ones in scrap pile or on a parts truck. We are not in the parts selling business but Joe at Dead...

    Fredericksburg Texas Christmas parade

Got to take my wife back to Fredericksburg so she can visit the Sunday Houses. Last time spent the whole day at the Pacific War Museum (got kicked out at closing time) and it was too late for Sunday House visiting. Life long friends widow lives in Kerrville so cover two with one trip. Visiting...

    Flywheel mark

I am too lazy to do much cleaning or standing on my head so I just use my "top dead center whistle" (do a search). Once I have tdc I make up a balancer mark and pointer so the moron that came up with the flywheel markings will be weeping in his grave. I also do away with the flippy floppy...

    Sloppy steering

Need more info. If the steering box is the problem it will need to go to Lare's in Minnesota. Drag link, tie rod, idler arm, ball joints, A-frame bushings, you can fix yourself. You said "Doctor I'm sick" and we don't know whether you have an ingrown toe nail or a heart attack.

    Gearing or new tranny?

Your original post does not say that it has a six in it. If it's a V8 then the 700R4 will bolt up to it. Your three speed column shifter will work with any automatic ever made be it 2sp Powerglide, 3sp Turbo 350, or 4sp (OD) 2004R or 700R4. The shifter is dumb and doesn't know whether it's...

Quick Wiring Question- Heater and Lighter

The early beds can also have the bed roll light wire run down through the stake pocket. Is the number 4 mystery wire the gas gauge sender wire? It was with the rest of the wires till it split off the loom at the rear of the cab and went up through a grommet in the floor to the sender.

'51 3100 front fender bolts .... were they

Hex bolts. I have a number of AD trucks and all the bolts on the front sheet metal clip are hex except the ones holding the upper grill air baffle and the hood latch striker plate. Of course they are all over 60 years old and can't talk so the factory assembly manual would be the most reliable...

    1967 Chev C20

Take the pedal to master cylinder actuator rod loose from the pedal and see if it still binds. If it does it's in the bushing/shaft/spring and if it doesn't it is something inside the master cylinder.

    Late 60s early 70s rearend

Where are you located? If within driving distance of the Dallas area you can pick the one you want out of the pile. Most are out of street rods that went to disc brakes on the rear. 1970 is the last six lug, 1971 went to the 5 on 5 pattern.

    No more carburetors

Andy, We have done several on V8's with excellent results and absolutely no complaints. When you get to the a/c check out Old Air Products in Ft Worth. We use both Vintage and Old Air but the Old Air unit on an AD lets one retain a full size glove box. Both are in the same price range, $$$...

What are these? From window run channel

Those are probably to hold the bottom of the channel at the rear in place. If it doesn't have a clip the channel can move around when the window is in the up position.

    Door hinge lubrication?

The shotgun approach is what I use. There isn't a square inch of the 6,000 square foot shop floor that is a virgin but if you have something pristine it would be wise to blast it in an area where dripping oil isn't a problem. I use 50wt motorcycle oil with the theory in mind that it might be a...

    No more carburetors

Big range to choose from but most choose either the 400hp or 600hp system. Also the vendor prices vary a lot but for one that can do the work on his own and use a regular frame mount fuel pump you can get home for near the $1000. Summit has these kits for $800 that includes the fuel pump...

    No more carburetors

Bill called it but in my case the old body has matching old innards but back to the truck subject; the FiTech has a carburetor look albeit a Holley or Autolite one. For a hot rod look Holley also makes a self tuning electronic injector unit(Sniper) that somewhat resembles an old Tunnel Ram...

    No more carburetors

If you bring one in with wood spoke wheels, acetylene gas lights, tube tires, and a hand crank we might consider it because they are of the same degree of development as a carburetor but anything else is getting a FiTech self tuning throttle body. Idles and runs dead smooth, built for what now...

    FRAMED

We have been using KBS. It gives the same protection as POR15 but is much better with top coats.
