Sub frame it or Mustang II?

There are myriad MII's to choose from, some good others a POS. I personally like Fatman which is many times stronger than the straight axle but of course pricey. You will get a 3"+ front end drop so it will have a butt up stance without rear end drop. We have done dozens and have two in the shop...

Parking brake cable for a Ford (?) rear axel

Get rid of the factory cross shaft and put a modern cable with an equalizer set up. We do this on every S10 conversion.

    Nate, I have a question...

Andy, I worked in a shop while in college that did work on big rigs with 24v electrical systems. It was a termination offense to have ANY kind of jewelry on while working. Most everyone had a special felt lined small locking drawer for bangle storage.

    OFF TOPIC : Keeping Busy

Nate, Sure wish we were closer together as we have worked on exactly ONE VW in our shop. Was a Super Beetle Convertible and our upholstery guy said if we ever brought another one to him he would ban us forever. Now to the problem: One of our portable generators has a Wisconsin Robin engine and...

    title for 50's pickup

DO NOT TITLE IT BY THE FRAME!!! The only time a customer got in trouble was when I followed the DVM rules and titled a 51 GMC pickup as a 74 Cadillac which is the chassis it's on. Title it as to WHAT THE COP SEES WITH HIS EYES. You live next to Oklahoma so do a search for "Oklahoma Title 42...

Three Speed Tranny Parts Help ~ 1935

Nate, You said it pops out of third gear but is it a three or four speed trans? I have a couple of 1937 4 speeds but have no idea if they would interchange. Both are from bigger trucks and have the PTO block off plate on the side.

    12 Bolt Rear Swap

Stick it in and run it. New bushings will keep the spring eye bolt centered for a long time. 3.73 is perfect if you ever go with an OD transmission but will let you run 60mph without strain.

    steering

Very poor design which I DO NOT recommend to anyone but here's how to check to see if it will even give correct amount of turn. Remove tie rods from steering arms, turn all the way in either direction on rack and then turn wheel to stop. Lift tie rod up to see how far stud is from hole in...

    Hydraulic clutch question

Guys, Do a search on remote "mount brake booster". No reason the brake set up needs to be in factory location. On many of our street rods the booster/master cylinder is in the trunk for easy access on often very low rides.

Norwegian `51 3600 needs help - emergency brake part

I have a 50 3/4 ton but I'm 85 with health issues so can no longer pull parts down at the storage yard. I'm 60 miles NE of Dallas so if your nearby or know someone near I would let them pull what you need. The only way I can work on field projects is to drive the forklift down to the yard so I...

    Tubeless tires and rims

We have used plastisol to seal the rivets, it's the stuff they coat tool handles with. Usually the rivets don't leak but if they do I think I would now use liquid urethane rubber or something that sets up FIRM and not be a potential balance problem.

Best Headers, Intake Manifold, Carb set up, etc.

Mike, This old dog learned something new; I had no idea there was a 1bbl efi unit available. Under 1k which to me is a bargain to get rid of a carb in any form. To be able to start hot or cold, idle perfect, have no acceleration dead spots, no fuel leaks, no worries about alcohol in fuel causing...

Best Headers, Intake Manifold, Carb set up, etc.

The drawback on EFI for a Stovebolt engine is that no EFI I know of is offered for a 1 barrel intake. Most opt for a 4bbl intake with a 4bbl to 2bbl adapter. This set up is much better than a carb. Some have tried a 2bbl to 1bbl adapter which is not the best. Multi carbs are not the answer when...

    Automatic tranny issues

The old stovebolt engines are good at what they were designed for: good torque at a low rpm but the TERRIBLE head design and siamesed intake and exhaust manifolds just add to a problem trying to get more power from them. For I6 diehards we put in a 300 Ford I6 which has a 12 port head and seven...

    400 SBC Points/Dwell Gap Setting

Haven't used a point distributor since I moved out of the cave but when I did I set the points on the GM top weight BEFORE I put on the rotor. Now if we want to keep the original look we put the rotor/stator/pickup in the original housing and mount the module somewhere outside housing where it...

    Dead forum

He can PM me as I'm sure there are some in the rear end pile. Supposed to rain from today (Sunday) through Thursday and they're in a swamp so hurry is out of the question. I wonder why he doesn't want to convert to Bendix?

Some of my favorite trucks are the 55-59 with the 57 topping the list. Just good looking rides.

    Carb problem and crankcase breather

Would help if you gave the make, year, and engine. By the electric temp sensor it must be a 1956 or newer and by the carb it is an I6 but what?

    Flywheel bolt safety locks

These were used before LocTite was available. Use red as Nate suggested and the bolts WILL NOT back out unless heated. Think of the lock tabs as a whale oil lamp when LED's are now available

    Introduction To Rusto-Mod

First, some really good fabrication and metal work. What we do on AD trucks is use a side fill gas tank like yours but run the fill tube out the side under the bed and then behind the tire to a motorcycle pop up gas cap. This eliminates any intrusion into the bed/floor area and is way easier for...
