    Weight of AD Pickups?

Used my '49 GMC 150 (3/4 ton) to haul some scrap metal to the dump last week. The folks at the dump weigh the vehicle going in loaded the coming out empty to determine the weight of the scrap material delivered. My outbound empty weight was 4,188 lbs. That's no driver on board, about a half...

    Rear gears for '49 1-ton

There are recent posts in the forum on oldgmctrucks.com that advise that the 3.55:1 ring & pinion kits are no longer available from Patricks. To my knowledge this was the only source for these kits, but one of the posts indicates that a new source may soon be available. Mike M '27 Chevy '41...

    She's Alive and Kickin'

Bossman - Congratulations... I know that's a great feeling!! If you're not sure of the condition of the inside of that gas tank, be aware that all kinds of rust, scale and other crud could be waiting to run down those fuel lines and give you those "out of gas" symptoms again. When that...

    Temp Gauge Surprise

Bossman, Evan & Nate - Thanks to all of you for your responses. I'm not sure about the head # on my 235, but as soon as I can confirm the # Nate sent I'll pickup a sending unit for a '59 TF 235. I'll report back on my results. Mike M '27 Chevy '41 John Deere B '49 GMC FC-150

    Temp Gauge Surprise

I finally got three of the four gauges in my '49 GMC working. The final challange is the temp gauge and I had thought it would be pretty easy since the capillary tubes / gauge heads are available from several sources. However, I just learned that the early AD/ND GMC's had electric gauge heads...

    Distributor - Embarrassed to Ask

RE: Distributor - Embarrassed to As I sure appreciate all the responses. Bossman was right on target with the tip that the distributor was not going to turn (counterclockwise) until after taking up the vacuum advance's spring tension... then a little more pressure. One last item... Nate &...

    Distributor - Embarrassed to Ask

I've set the timing on a couple older engines and am familiar with loosening the clamp at the base of the distributor to advance or retard the timing by turning the distributor. However, I've never worked on one with a vacuum advance. When I loosended the clamp at the base of my '54 235's...

CORE 261 Engine Value In So. Cal. ?

Let's cut to the chase Nate! I can't believe nobody has asked the most important question about this engine swap!! So, what's the plan for that finely tuned and lovingly maintained 235 that's been haulin' you and the '49 around all these years? Mike M '27 Chevy '41 John Deere B '49 GMC...

    235 Lifters

Thanks for the reply Nate. I don't mind the valve clatter, just need to figure out if the lifters are solid or juice so I can adjust them correctly. I have no idea if the 235 came out of a passenger vehicle or another truck. Should I run the engine to pump up the lifters (if they're juice)...

    235 Lifters

My '49 GMC has a '54 235 in it. Engine serial # on the flat just aft of the distributor is 0818638F54X. How can I tell if this engine has solid of hydraulic lifters? Mike M '27 Chevy '41 John Deere B '49 GMC FC-150

" Average Street Use " Drivetrain

RE: " Average Street Use " Nate - Nope... some time before she found her way to me the PO dropped a stock '54 235 Stove Bolt under the hood. If I stumble across a 302 one of these days it will be tempting, but until then the 235 seems to be running strong. Mike M '27 Chevy '41 John...

    Wheres Number 1

Hey Jake - #1's up front ahead of the other five. You could probably get her close to firing up with your timing method, but it would be 50/50 on getting the spark to #1 or #6 on TDC. Lots of folks here have posted their timing techniques and you pull them up quickly with a search on...
