51 3100 Hood Fasteners

Getting the hood back from painter for my 51 3100 and realize I don't have the correct bolts/nuts/fasteners to hold the left and right sides together.

Can anyone tell me the correct ones? Ideally how many as well.

Our host has the hood hinge bolt set. http://www.classicparts.com/1947-54-Hood-Hinge-Bolts/productinfo/38-525/#.VLLb9Rs5DIU. See if this is what you need?
Well, I re-read your post, and it appears that you're wanting to know how to fasten the two halves of the hood together. If this is the case, mine has rivets. Depending on how much of a stickler you are, I'd use machine bolts, with self locking nuts. BTW the center trim strip has tabs on it that you push through and give a quarter twist to tighten, for when you get that far.

What I need are the bolts that hold the 2 halves of the hood together.

I think I would use bolts instead of rivets also. If you do use rivets, obviously you want steel rivets, or, you could use modern huck-bolts. They require a special "gun" to set, so a body shop esp. heavy truck shop would have to do it for you.
 
Steve, I think you hit it: The hood was riveted together. Its been a while since I torn this truck apart, but I vaguely recall drilling out rivets.

I will look at bolts, probably with flat washers on both sides to distribute the load.

Nate, exactly what I was thinking. Thought best to use flats under the bolt head as well to gain as much surface area as possible.

Obviously I know little or nothing about sheet metal repairs but , in decades of working on old junk I have discovered that it's hard to over gusset anything , ever :) .

Othere here know all about proper body repair , pay close attention to what they say .
