I was digging through some of me junk and came across a cruise set up I made for my 37 Buick when it still had a torque tube (inclosed) driveshaft just like an AD. I just about have to have cruise for long trips as my right knee locks up if in the same position for long. The after market kits use a magnet epoxied to the driveshaft which one can't do with a torque tube. I made a bracket to mount a 45# pull solenoid in line with my throttle cable and spliced the hot wire to the solenoid into the brake light wire. Used a spring as a link from the solenoid to the throttle cable which cushioned the "snap" of the solenoid. With this setup it worked just like any modern cruise; touch the brake and the cruise is disengaged.Worked great on level to moderately hilly roads but of course it couldn't vary engine speed for steeper hills. Worked flawlessly for around 15 years and was not dangerous like using the throttle only for speed setting.
