Bed?

My truck has a 2x6 and 4x4 bed I want to keep the look but I want it to look like the original. Is there any company that make the bed base? Here are some pictures of what I have.

I'm not aware of any company that makes the old platform beds for these trucks as there is not much demand for them. Here's a couple of pictures of what the original beds looked like and a link to original dimensions of them.

There are any number of truck bed/body manufacturers around. I dealt with Parkhurst back in the day and they make a quality product. If you are in the market for a used bed, check out Craigslist.

The original platform trucks had bed rails from the factory. It is tough finding an original GM bed in usable condition.....It is even tougher to find all the latches & hardware that hold the bed stake together.

I restored my original '49 platform bed truck a few years ago & you can't beat it for hauling.

Your '49 sure is pretty ! I love looking at it , because it takes me right back to The Farm in 196? .......

I see plenty of brandy new flat bed truck bodies from TEXAS here in So. Cal. , the Worker types use them , buy older 3/4 & 1 Ton rigs and discard the pickup beds , have a new one custom built and work it HARD for another 10 years , no reason you cannot do this too Graham , you're already in the GREAT State of TEXAS .

Here in the hills of Tennessee there are plenty of smaller flatbeds on all the old farmtrucks. Light hauling of your annual Tobacco to the Auction is the highlight of the year. They come in all sizes, and are pretty generic. Like Nate says, find one even if its too big and cut it down. You still probably will need to re-do the wood. Many have been transferred to several trucks in their life.
