Ford bashing Must stop

I've had all i can stand! There will be no more ford bashing on this site! I thought us chevy owners and lovers were "above" that. Sure Ford was #2 from 1955 through the mid '80's (due in large part to the tri 5's), and sure they had the 351 Cleveland engine (V8, nate) which was no match against the 409, 396 or 427 chevy, and sure they came out with the Mustang in late '64 while chevy waited until 67 to introduce the Camaro, and sure F-O-R-D stood for "found on road dead" or my favorite, "fix or repair daily", and sure they made the Edsel, but the best reason why we must stop bashing them is because: They make our trucks look soooo much better.

Just having a little fun with you guys. I'll tell you my favorite "owned" fords if you'll tell me yours.

I too must admit I owned a, repeat A f...., but I can't recall owning a FAVORITE f.....
I guess that when my father would not let me have my granpa's 61 f.... when he died in 75 that it just set wrong and I never wanted another. Did catch myself in one, one time, forget what the thing was called, here is the discription, maybe you can help, ,,, it looked like a van in front, cab over engine, flipped on the nose once when a tree limb was hit by front wheels, was three-on-the-tree, motor between passenger and driver. Now let's see what was it called???????????? a wreak waiting to happen......... ooooppps, forgot, no f..... bashing

Really, I did forget what it was called, but i'll never forget it was a f....

Sounds like a Ford Ecoline. I had a '66 Ford Ecoline van back in my college days (every mother's nightmare)! 8 track player w/4, yes 4 speakers. What a ride! Sounds like you had the pu version of it!

Some years ago , I took over a vacant post , it was an unwanted post and had been vacant for several years so I decided to reward myself for all the extra work I signed on for ~ I needed a shop truck and went to the salvage motor pool ~ EURKA ! a 1981 C-10 with the 4.0 inline 6 - banger , only 12,000 miles and used by a City Dept' of Buildings Engineer who didn't smoke or eat in it.... like new , really ~ what ? no ? you're going to give it to the drunks and crackheads to push brooms and clean up skid row with ? .

Oh , I see , I'm not PC so I cannot have any running salvage vehicle eh ? .

I then found a 1978 F-150 Ranger , it had a 351 and C-6 tranny , heavy duty everything , towing package , the works but _zero_ creature comforts , no AM radio , no AC and it was -so- filthy , no one would drive it anymore ~ sounds good to me ! I took the interior all apart and sent the seat out for rebuilding with black Caddilac cloth and chrome backrest buttons , hand scrubbed all the green glow in the dark french fries and spilled coffee out from under the rubber mat , waxed and polished every inch of it , inside & out , re-assembled the interior with a new mat and fitted all new plastic lenses I found in the pallets of salvage parts , had the windows removed and reflectorized so I could get away from the blistering _heat_ when I was out hauling Taxpayer's goods , then I hid all the keys as it was now -my- Ford .

It was a good little truck too ~ even if it was the wrong brand and a V-ate to boot

I transferred out after a couple three years and surprised everyone who was certain I'd fixed it all up so I could salvage it and buy it back for $350.00 or so . ~ who'd want an old Ford pickup ?

Last I heard it was still plugging away and they were still waiting for me to come claim it again .....

Well, I wasn't going to say anything, but I own a 1964 Mercury Comet. I love the body style. Oh, did I mention there is a 390 waiting to go in. That's a project for another day. Okay, enough of the four letter word stuff.

im just 17 so i havent really had all the experiance behind the wheels of very many cars but i have always worked with my grandpa who is a mechanic and i had rather work on a chevy any day there a hole lot easyer to work on and there a hole lot easyer to find parts for, but i do have a 67 mustang that i built a 289 for and its pretty fast i have kicked alot of 350s. Now if i were going to buy a new pickup i would buy a chevy becasue all my boss buys is chevys and i love them. I drive a ford and so does the rest of my family and i would take a chevy pickup over all of them

Since we are having true confessions I have to admit that my other truck is a Dodge. However, it ain't no sweet Dodge. It is a 68 D300 Dump truck with a 318 V8 and a 4 speed with a granny gear. It is ugly and rusty and that is the way I like it. I use my John Deere 990 4WD that has a bucket and I move dirt from one side of the farm to the other just so I can say I can. Occasionally I venture off the farm and get 3 tons of gravel to fill in the low places in my drive or around the barn. I like the looks that I get. Especially from soccer Moms in their nice clean SUVs. It is a look of FEAR!

Not a truck,but probably the best car I ever owned was a 67 Mustang. I owned it for 7 years and never did anything major to it except for clutch assembly and transmission. My fault! LOL

I posted this on the "Kids and their truck" thread also so nobody misses it. I'm gonna chime in on the "F" word. Last car I restored was a '66 Mustang coupe. I was going back to school and needed something cheap to repair and insure. I had been rebuilding Mazda RX-7's. would buy them at auctions recovered theft. It was the number one stolen car in the country at the time. Buy it, build it, drive it, sell it. These cars were so well engineered you could put a engine/trans assembly in them in ten minutes while wearing a suit!!! But just try to insure one of them when you're 25!!! Decided to go back to school to become a chiropractor and looked at 20 old mustangs. Bought the first one that still had the frame and the floor in it. Started looking at rag tops, then fastbacks. Settled for a coupe with a 4 barrel 289 in it with over 100 K on the motor. When I took the valve cover off there were impressions in the sludge on the underside from the rockers hitting the crap that built up in the motor, but it still ran. Had the local shop that builds most of the racing engines for the local circle track do the motor (friend of my uncle). Freaking car flew!!! worked the auto trans and it would break the wheels at every shift (and a couple of U-joints). Put 80 K more on the motor and had it freshened up just as I was getting out of school. What a great car with four wheel drum brakes that you had to stand on with both feet after you got done blowing away some jerk in a porche that thought he could take on American iron. Got hit in the left front side as I was leaving the clinic one day. Had it fixed and painted, but it was never the same as the unibody frame got a little too twisted. Car handled great up to then with one inch front sway bar, urethane bushings, export brace, heavy duty springs and little tiny Goodyear GT's that were so sticky, you just couldn't spin it out no matter how hard you tried. The car was just SET UP. Man, I miss that car. Was gonna build one of those with my kids, but then I thought about how I used to DRIVE it. I just DON'T want my kids driving ANYTHING that powerful until they have some experience. Hence, our Great Chevy truck project. The boys are already fighting over whose truck it will be when it is done. Looks like we will have to build more than one. What a shame!!!!

Andy, if you're ever in Puryear, Tennessee and see an ol' white haired gal in a '66 powder blue mustang, don't challenge her cause she'll blow you off the line! My mother still thinks that if it ain't steel, it ain't real. She's 76 years young and still thinks that she can tell me how to re-assemble my '50 PU (and probably can)! The front license plate reads: Betty's '66.
