Not a stupid question. When GM came out with them, they were known as "Advance Design" trucks.

I had no idea what AD was either. I now throw it out there like I've used that expression all my life.
I think it's so cool that it stands for "advance design" (!) I think it should have been called KAD. (Kick Ass Design)
