Here is to a great 2012. The shop..Classic Speed and Custom...Is full up with projects and the murals are booking up also! Lets all have a prosperous new year and get those projects on the road!

Rewiring a redneck ferrarri (Pantera) tomorrow, Got the underneath done on the 77 ford truck last week, got engine in the 69 Camaro convertable last week, starting it up this week, another 68 Camaro this week for an engine swap, got the 67 Chevelle running finnally. Have an 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee to strip all running gear (HEMI) and suspension to use in a 60 Dodge truck, and starting a 55 Ferd truck in Feb. for a Marine who has shipped out to Afganistan.

It is good to hear you're busy Russ , a busy Shop , is going to make money....

I'm still wishing you were closer to advise me on my '69 C10 , I found a whole nearly rust free cab in a junkyard for rust repair parts .
 
Spare Cab

That's what I was thinking.....

I can't take it home in the bed of my '69 , don't have anyplace to store it....

I was thinking maybe they could cut the entire cowl out for me ? . like cut the rockers behind the 'A' Pillars & the windshield posts , that'd fit in my bed I think

I dunno .
 
It would be easy to patch the cowl with that, either piggy back patch or cut and replace.

The 1st. cab I found looked rust free but had been mashed in the driver's side rocker panel , they said $150 for the whole cab or $100 for just the cowl and he said I'd have to remove it from the dead chassis and strip it before they'd cut , they did have a 1969 title to go with the whole cab.....

I then found another truck in a different yard , it has a much better cab , no rust , no dents , I'm stymied as to what to do ..... :confused: .

Cab Swap

Yes , I keep mentioing a cab swap but this is the first time you've responded.

One place wanted $150 for the complete cab , I'd have to rent a trailer to get it home , I don't think I'm up to changing it though ~ too much heavy lifting , gotta take the whole front clip off blah blah blah.....

What about the VIN tag ? .

Where on the _frame_ ('67 ~ '72) is the VIN ? .

I do not know where else the vin may be. In NC, they never check that. I would say to talk to someone at the DMV, tell them why, show them your proper paperwork for your truck, a bill of sale for the other cab, have them verify them, then get them to make you a new vin tag for the new cab. I know Cali is different, and a PITA so I hear. I'm shure you aren't the first to need to do this.

Lifting??? that is what friends and beer are for. have everything unbolted, then have a truck party. Things get done quickly that way. Get it all swapped and bolted down, eat some burgers, then you can make the connections later.

Don't you have an old swingset for an a frame? Build one out of leftover lumber, jack one side, crib it , then the other until you can slide a board through the cab to rest on the a frame, roll the truck out. Drop the cab, then do the same for the new cab and do the same in reverse.

What happened to that Yankee farmer enginuity????

Not paying attention Russ :rolleyes: .

I'm cripppled , broken back , now wear a back brace and hobble about with a cane , no more cab swaps for me , did that years ago .

Plus , it needs to be removed from the junked truck far from home....

Cali. isn't as bad about getting a VIN tag as you might think ~ the CHP will inspect it and issue a new foil tag with the same VIN or occasionally , a replacement VIN , kinda depends on how tight the Officer's Knickers at when he's looking at your rig .

This truck runs better and better as I keep tinkering with it , the fuel economy went from 13 MPG to 17.5 MPG , I can live with that .
 
Got a rivet gun?

The Glamours were the last series to use a plate riveted to the door post for the serial Numbers. Easy Peasy to change it. The "special" rivets are available on the interweb, tho, I can't remember where I last saw them. Or, you can grab a small round file to make your own by filing down the flange on some standard pop rivets. Considering how dumbfounded the state trooper was back in the mid 80s when he had no idea where the vin was located on mine, I suspect most may not even realize the difference in the rivets if you just used plain ones. The biggest trick, it sounds is rounding up a few youngsters for a road trip to get the replacement cab.

A few friends and some portable impact guns will have that cab off in no time.

Buy lunch on the way home.

Paint and detail the new cab and when you are ready, have a cab party, kinda like a barn raisin'.

Cook some burgers and dogs afterwards.

Again, beer and burgers and manly activities can be powerful motivators!

(and I don't even drink!)
 
Sounds Good But ;

You're not getting the point that all my friends like me to do the works because they don't ken the importance of the right fastener in the right place like I do . I'm not up to the job physically ~ I'm still dragging my feet on replacing the rusted out right inner fender and heater door repairs for this reason .

Plus of course , the bitchy old drunken whore next door to me would have yet another hissy fit and once again call Code Enforcement , the cops and God knows who else on me if I were to have any party or raise a cab off the frame in my back yard.

Every time I go into my back yard , within 10 minutes there's some snoopy old lady ' walking her dog ' up and won my block , over and over ,and over....

City living has it's down side.....

Peace For A Change

Prolly because they knew that pissing me off when I'm holding an " Irish Banjo " is foolhardy....... :D .

I now have an iPod thing-a-ma-jig (Technical Term there) and it has a camera I know how to use so soon I'll snap some pix of the beautiful Cacti and then see if I can figger out how to download them.....
