Okay I found some linings for the huck brake shoes but they are just the linings. How do you bond them to the metal shoes or is this out of the relm of good safety practices for the do it yourselfer.
Craig, i'm no brake expert by any means, but something that is that important, if it were me, i'd go down to the local "brake specialist" shop and ask them how it can be done.
Woaaahhh, stop right there, do NOT even attempt to bond the linings, take them to a big rig, semi or whatever you call a 16 wheeler, brake specialist, they can bond them for you, one thing I have learned in my time is dont mess with brakes! if the linings were to come apart either you or someone else could be killed, not worth the risk. ________ Magic flight launch box
Okay, I get the message. Safety first! The reason I asked it that I'm not near any of the usual resources found in major cities. I would die for a good machine shop in my area and the other usual places a stovebolter needs to get the ole girl back on the road. ANywqay - thanks I'll see if my son can locate one in the big city!!!
Whew ! I finally fot acess to this page Re-lining brakes is -NOT- DIY work , esp. bonding as it take a special oven you're not going to use for food prep..... NAPA etc. can get you re-lined Huck brake shoes . The Cali-Block company sells upgraded riveted linings that stop better and last longer... I dunno if they do mail order or not .
Nah ; I sold thier products many years ago and used them too as I liked it , esp. the riveted stuff . They _NEVER_ cheaped out and used too short linings like so many others did . I was surprsied to see thier products just recently , I aksed and was told they're still here selling re-lined brake shoes... If you do a google search in So. Cal. I imagine they'll pop up (said the total 'puter dufus) , else go to your local library or 'phone Co. office and ask to look in the _busisness_ directory , brake re-liners will be listed in there . I hope this helps... BTW : Tom , on the yahoo list , finally followed my Huck brake adjusting instructions and now has good brakes.....
