Installed 17 Gal LMC Rear Tank

You asked about a LMD tank...I assume you meant a LMC tank. I don't feel qualified to advise you on whether the LMC is the best option for your stepside. I did quite a bit of research before buying the LMC tank. However, based on comments from some experienced forum members I now wonder if I should have bought a tank with baffles. My main reasons for getting the LMC tank was that I could afford it, it was metal, and it came with all components needed for the install. Probably for twice the money ($400 or more) I could have bought a better tank.

Search "gas tank" in this forum and others...and review the very informative sticky by Woogeroo in this forum. You may find better alternatives.

I wouldn't be too worried about not having baffles, they're nice, but not a necessity by any means.

There are a lot of options, as Rich's post outlines. Here's how I did the rear mount tank on my '65: https://talk.classicparts.com/showthread.php?p=88322#post88322/

Good luck to ya!

good job

WOW I like it looks good.. I have been waiting for someone to give up some info and thoughts on rear under bed tank installing. I am still trying to figure out how to keep the filler out of the bed, thinking about one of the pics here where it comes out just behind the fender?? Thanks for sharing.

Rear Tanks & Remote Fillers

You're on the right track , have it come out below the bed side near the last vertical bed support try to avoid using rubber hoses and always figure in some sort of a vent so it fills easily .

I highly disagree on the baffles , no Chinese tanks either ~ measure then find a good used tank and have the radiator shop re rust then coat it inside and out .

If it has no baffles , they can cut it open and ad some .

Ratsnest, thanks for posting your tank install. I was on another forum asking if anyone had installed the LMC tank & Lakeroadster sent me here. So I joined today. How many inches from bottom of frame rail to bottom of tank? Getting ready to hit the "add to cart" button . I have a `65 stepside project. Hope to have my chassis look as good as yours someday. great job !Thanks, Donnie

It's 7 1/2" from bottom of frame rail to bottom of tank. Good luck with your install.
