Moving Gas Tank & Door Rust

Greetings All

Started working on the 47 3100. Got the seat out and am in the process of
vacuuming out the 2" of mouse poo. What's the lowdown on moving the tank
from the cab to between the rails? And, is there a tried and true method of
getting the surface rust out of the "inside" of the doors?

hey wrongpaw, you do plan to recycle that poo, don't you? I've never used this product before, but after reading stuff about it, it may be worth investigating. It's called Rust Bullet and it's supposed to be worth it's weight in gold. Supposedly, you can apply it directly to a rusted surface and it stops the spread of it, blah, blah, blah. the website is www.rustbullet.com if you want to check it out.

Wrongpaw, if your truck is actually a '47 the gas tank should already be between the rails and not in the cab. If that is not the case, find a 47-48 pick-up or up to '53 panel/suburban and snag the tank & bracketry to bolt to frame. On the pick-ups it fills through the passeger bed side. Dave

You can use Phosphoric Acid to neutralize rust , it will not eat good metal , only rust .

DO NOT use Muriatic Acid as that _will_ eat good metal ! .

There used to be a product called ' Rust Mort ' , after you wire brushed the loose scale off you'd apply it and it stopped the rust and turned it into a good base to paint over ~ I saw a horribly rusty Mercedes Benz UniMog (military truck) get saved by using this stuff once...

As mentioned , '47s have the tank under the bed .

Many have used old Econoline van fuel tanks between the frame rails to the rear or the rear axle , others like the Mustang / Maverick tank .

Just beware of the trap of installing the filler under neath a drap door in the bed ~ while cool looking this is a real PIA in actual use and few are happy with it after actually usingthe truck so modified .

what is it with these trucks and mice? everyone says they have cleaned out the black pellets (english gentlemen dont say poo) ive found a nest in the bottom of the A pillar and one in each door! are they pests or do they just have good taste?

I have the rotten little buggers living in the walls of my house , I laid out poison and one had the temerity to die in the batheroom wall...

Mice, peppermint chocolate on an ol fashioned neck snapper trap, never fails, used to have farm behind my old place and come wintertime the little blighters used to move into the loft. i know its not nice to kill them and my daughter hated me doing it but when they took the last beer outta the fridge, their number was up!
