I have a friend who needs two stainless strips, 69" long and 3/4" wide for his 59 GMC half ton short wheelbase non-step side bed. I don't know if Chevy used the same trim on their "fleetside" bed or not. He has two strips (two needed for each side) and they seem to be interchangable, left side to right.

Any help would be appreciated, as would first hand knowledge of whether the same parts are used on Chevy.

Hey Bill, Chevy had trim very similar to that. Go over to the stovebolt page, www.stovebolt.com and look in the gallery. There are several pics of '59 Apache Fleetsides. Check out Samuelson's '59 Apache for his trim. Hope this helps!

Appears that GMC didn't use the trim at all, which would explain why I couldn't find it in the Master Parts Book. Pee-Wee Garrett, a very knowlegable 55-59 GMC guy, claims that the chrome trim was too wussy for GMC trucks.

If you ever want to read an incredible story, go to Pee-Wee's web site at

and then click "I was run over by my own truck"

I'm sure that I have seen that exact trim on more gmc trucks in the past than chevys. I have the same trim for my longbed fleetside-and as far as I know-the gmc's were considered fancier trucks and people were more likely to spring the extra 100 bucks for the trim.(farmbeaters didn't even need turn signals!)

I have seen many pieces of this trim set for sale on e-bay,but not generally for cheap! I have seen show restored sets for sale for as much as 2500.

Speaking of trim..Maybe Bill can answer this..Was there any type of Trim...or #s on the Front panels of the 55 3/4 ton longbed, I have holes in my front fenders...but they may be replacement fenders?? gaff

Only trim I know of on GMC front fenders are the GMC logo and possibly the V8 and Hydra-Matic logos if your truck is so equipped. My '57 has all three.

The GMC and Hydra-Matic are located just above the crease, while the V8 is just below the crease.

Picture attached.

Each of the three pieces of trim has 2 screws holding it on through the fender. In this picture of my right front fender the front of the truck is to the right and the wheel well is almost visible in the lower right corner.
