Oscar ; Was that a City or municipal truck when new ? . The center mounted spot light was very common well int the late 1960's .
Not that I know of. Though it was built in Oakland, was told it belonged to a hunter (hence the light). I’d honestly never seen the light there. Also had a weird rear bumper installed at dealership in 55
Makes one wonder how ? the light` even cleared the door ! LOL . I sure wish Dead Zone was not so busy and could spend more time here trying to field questions on visors. When I met Nate here it was like a `fresh breath of air.` Someone who was willing to help me without making me feel stupid. I bought a visor from Dead Zone and he made it smooth /easy to get with great packaging /shipping. If this is too much information -not helpful I hope a Mod would delete this reply. Oh.. and I have to admit when I first came here and started reading old topics in the database - I swore Nate and Joe ( Dead Zone ) were brothers reading their exchanges < LOL
Was told this was original paint (yukon yellow). There are several touchup spots around certain corners. It made the front page of Vintage Truck Magazine several years ago. The guy tells a little about its history. Damn thing’s still 6 Volts.
No, sir. Definitely not. I’m a preservationist. Will not change a thing. Will keep it 6V and drum brakes.
That's not what I remember Yukon Yellow being, it was a pale yellow ~ that's a fleet color . When I was young many Municipalities, the gas & telephone company all used the center mounted spotlights on the trouble shooter trucks, one driver could operate it and illuminate either side of the street's wires, or house numbers etc.... It's a nice truck, glad to see you're keeping it stock . Don't forget to DRIVE IT .
Thanx Ernest ; I try real hard to be helpful, many old vehicle enthusiasts foirget when they were young and learning and get uppity . Joe's an old San Fernando Valley guy who made good and moved to Arizona .
From what I gather on the internet, chevy trucks newly painted to yukon yellow are ALL brighter (attachment) Found VW’s with the more pale yukon yellow. It’s worth looking into, thank you. Would be nice to know if this was a work truck and for what. Yes, love put puting around town. Thanks, Ernest! i got DeadZone to reply to me. He hasn’t spoken to me about the headlight yet. Keep ya’ll posted.
As Nate said DRIVE IT ! Take it from someone who let life happen when busy doing other things ( as important as they were ) I sure wish I had met Nate earlier. And in chasing down a visor that had MT ? stamped over a picture in an ad years ago. The day I did hook up with Joe was like a dream come true. Nate and Joe 's wealth of knowledge goes way back and reading their input of other forums is priceless. Every now and then I caught pictures of Joe's boxes filled with headlights and all kinds of OEM parts and thought what a Museum he could make. About a month ago I caught some chopped off front end/grills he had mounted on a wall in Arizona and goodness Joe never ceases to amaze me - blow me way with all that he knows and has to offer. Again would like to thank Nate for without him being here I would have remained just a "reader" . Love Your Ride "551st" ! When I first caught your tag name I thought about the -- "5o1st "Dates Movie - LOL Truth me known people even family members said I look like this guy : PRIVATE PARTS ? OMG ( I lost my left eye at 7 years old while working without safety glasses - chipping plaster with a framing ax- Later was blinded on the job while framing --long story. Remember --Keep a Good Eye on things- LOL ))))))
Talk about blowing a hole in my pocket ! I forget the exact words Nate once shared but it comes down to what you want . ~~ You alone ~~~ Heck I was hoping the wife didn't see what happened to my > mad money < the stash of cash I has set to the side. $$$$ Another thing was (still is ) I knew next to nothing about visor types. The repro ones all looked rather ? uhh... I kept looking for something like I once had on my old 53 pickup . Kept running into posts with pictures with MT-stamped on them MT-AZ...etc and read about Dead Zone aka Mother Trucker aka Joe.... And today - I would not expect many could understand but the feeling in having something I saw years ago online --and knowing it came from Mother Trucker- ( Joe) which in turn made it even more than special. Again the way Joe made sure I got what I wanted ! it was carefully packaged It is something --priceless--- ! I can and have started sewing (sowing? ) the big fat hole in my pocket -LOL I wish Dead Zone would come out with just a Book on AD Visors ! Well maybe a BIG BOOK with all the "stuff" he has and learned. I would be standing in line to buy such a book.. Hard to miss me in line.... The Guy with a Huge Smoking Hole in --ONE POCKET -- LOL ! Love Your Ride !
