How she rides remains a mystery. Hopefully I will have the water pump back on the old 228 tomorrow and can start doing what needs to be done to fire it back up. Once that happens on a regular basis, I will finally free it from its resting place.

Seriously, Nate! What with all the wierd weather...
Not to worry...
I had to put in a new battery. The other one was worn out from all those radio hours. It had been recharged several times, and right off the charger it just didn't have the juice.
New battery spins it like a top, but the same problem exists as before. First, check for spark, next~ the carburetor. I need to get this thing firing up with just a hit of the starter. It's a long way from there currently.

Craburetor rebuilt
Stuck it back on, hooked it up cranked and cranked to get that "good" gas filled up in the bowl. Cranked again and it slowly rolled to life. Of course it died shortly there after, but it did start, and all on its own.
Now I guess it will be time to work on timing/tuning and see if this starting thing can become a habit.
BTW, rebuilding the carb was well worth it. The plunger was crap and the piston was stuck in place. Not no more~

Yes!!! so excited for you! Keep it up. I hope you tried it a few times. There can just have some hiccups in the beginning. If it ran good then tuning and timing should be okay. Then is should lead you to fuel issues.

Brian, you have NO IDEA how excited I am about this project of mine~
It was acting real strange as far as power just cutting off when I hit the starter. I believe I narrowed it down to the cheezy starter I got from our host.
At least, when I worked with it's positioning, I got the truck to.... FIRE UP!!!
It ran until I took my foot off the gas and it idled down to a stall and die.
But the BEST NEWS?!?!?!?
Evan will be by tomorrow sometime!!!! I am so stoked!!!
All these years and all the help Evan has sent my way on ideas about this and that, and the day before he shows up, I get my truck to start under its own power!

Keep Evan in your thoughts/prayers as he makes his trip with his wife. It should be a great time for the both of them, and I know it will be off the hook for me to meet them both in person!!!

Oh HECK yes!!!
So I went out and tried starting the truck. It wanted to, but just wouldn't quite get there. So, I pulled the choke out about half way and tried it again. It fired right up and stayed at a nice idle.
I thought "Hey, I need to go get my ipad and make a video!" I shut it down and went to get it.
Now keep in mind, my truck has NEVER started right back up without "persuasion". Today, right back to life! So I shut it off again and started the recorder. It fired right back up.
Now to see if I can post the video. If not, (and you have a facebook account) get on facebook and look for Paul Hanney. You'll know you got the right Paul Hanney when you see my portfolio picture.
I guess it's too long of a video. I'll go try a shorter one or two.

Well I missed Evan coming through! He was a day early and I was a day late! He even had a problem with his fuel filter that I could have driven him around to get it fixed, but at the time, he didn't have my phone #. :/
Well, hopefully he will be able to make it by on his way back!
