The main thing is : once you allow them to discharge they can be difficult to get back going again .

I know several people who've gotten free ones and brought them back from the dead & then used them for YEARS .

The yellow one on my back steps , however - it's well and truly dead I think .

:(

Ive got a red top , given to me , its quite seasoned to say the least but still holds a charge well so i jus use it at the moment for my lead light , and put it on a battery monitor to keep it charged up well ,

Thanks

for all the feedback. Probably buy one this Spring when this icebox warms up; can't handle this cold weather like the days of old. According to a phone call to Sam's Club, they said they would order a 6v for $135 including tax.
Thanks
Jim

Call around !!

Jim ;

I see these things sel from $100.0 to $159.95 , it seems to matter by the seller's whim at the moment...

Good luck hunting ! $135.00 for an 8 year battery sounds like a very good deal indeed .

Very good battery but you must follow the charging instructions. When the situation dictates it we mount them on their side or upside down. Here is a shot of one on it's side under the floor of a Model A. It is in one of those quick drop out battery boxes.

Charging Instructions

Very good battery but you must follow the charging instructions.

O.K. Evan , what ARE the correct charging instructions ? .

I have a dead yellow top one I'd like to return to service .

Nate i work for a unnamed company that runs both TT units and smaller delivery trucks around the world. We had changed a lot of trucks over to the optima batt.Well they are all coming out world wide.It was the biggest mistakes that a company that size ever made. If the batt starts going south it will and does burn the alt up. It also is not user friendly to recharge. Oh the trucks are brown in color;)
We tried them in our circle track car and no go.... voltage dropped too much in a 150 lap race.We run small alt for less drag but 2 . 8 volt batts worked better. Can you tell i am not a real fan LOL In some of the streetrods we build with computers they are horrible as they cant hold a charge over long periods of time with a draw and that screws with memory . I have also tried them on the plow truck...NG they dont like cold. So we dont us them anymore. Plus cost is way too much if you are a wholesaler like i am.

Charging

Anyone use a battery tender on one of these? I've been planning on getting one next summer but there may be long periods of time not being used.

Bob

Optima batteries

Save your money, buy 4 regular batteries for the price of one optima, and get a warranty. Just don't tip them over
