Paint Job Complete!

I just got back from Clovis, NM with my truck. I took it out there so my bro-in-law Art could paint it for me. He just built a new shop with paint booth. Long way from Ky to NM, but to get this kind of paint job for the cost of materials only (about $1250) plus gas out there and back, about another $500, made it well worth about 2 weeks of my time. Lots of hard work finishing up minor body work, wet sanding, prepping, painting, color sanding and buffing. Art's a retired USAF firefighter, and has been restoring cars for about 35 years as a hobby. We had a great time working together and I learned a lot about painting trucks!

I posted some pictures on the photo board. What do you think?
 
Look's Nice Is a Long way to get a paint job but makes the project more fun I think. Good Luck getting it together

That is absolutely beautiful! Seeing that perfect cab setting on the trailer- I'm glad it's you taking it off and not me! I can just see the huge scratch that I would put in the side of that trying to take it off of there!:eek:
 
Straight Cab

Yes, it was good and straight when we painted it. However, I'd spent many, many hours getting it that way. My truck is a '50 model. I like vent windows and push button door handles, though, so I'd found some '52-53 doors, stripped them, and replaced the lower sheet metal, inside and out, on both doors. I also replaced both cab corners, both rocker panels, and both side cowl panels. The left side cowl panel was solid when I got it, so I had to cut the side vent hole in it, cut the frame of the vent door out of the old one and weld it into the new panel. I also spent hours and hours trying to get all the dents and waves out of the back cab panel. Did I mention that I hate bodywork?

So after all that, I wanted someone who cared about my truck to paint it and spend as much time as it took to get it right. I would have been satisfied with it waaaaay before Art was, but he kept saying "It's gotta be perfect". I'm lucky to have such a great brother-in-law and a sister (his wife) that's such a great cook. That's why I made the long trip out to NM. As I said earlier, it was well worth the money and time it took.
