Popularity of AD trucks

After asking advice of CD forum members I finally got off my hiney and took the 53 five window to the swap meet at Arlington, Texas in mid september. This was a truck whose owner had died while the truck was under restoration at my shop and I had posted on the CD forum and asked for advice since I'm not in the selling game. Let me tell you--these trucks are still hot, hot, hot in popularity. In two days there must have been close to a thousand lookers that went over it in detail, sometimes with some having to wait for others to make room. It seems as though everyone over fifty had one or drove one in their youth or if under fifty their dad or granddad had one. Needless to say it sold for the asking price with three buyers competing with each other. Two of the buyers were resellers with cash and one was a regular guy who wanted to know if he could give me a little earnest money till he could go to the bank on monday and get the rest. Guess whom got the truck. Thanks for the advice, it worked.

Evan, glad to hear it went to the right guy. These trucks are very popular right now, and are getting some very crazy prices too. Too many of them are butchered to the point of being unsafe, and they get big money too. Just curious, what was the final selling price?? .......Mike

This is mixed news ~ good for you but not so good as more popular means ever more jerkoffs chopping them into junk trying to make a hot rod then giving up as soon as the torch has destroyed it....

Hey Mike, it went for 12,500 and was a very good buy because the truck was restored not refurbished. A lot of people don't know the differance but the resellers did because that's their buisiness. Nate--don't knock the butchers too badly, because of them it lets us keep the parts truck corral full of ones we picked up for a song and a source of original parts, not those infuriating repops.

Sounds like a very fair price for a restored truck. I have seen much higher here in California. Glad it worked out in the end....Mike

I drove my truck way the hell and gone out into the desert this weekend and it got a lot of posative attention including one Chippy who told me to slow it down a bit = .
