project time estimate

Ok my ruck is running well, after you all helped me solve the sluggish running issue. My next project is to rewire the truck. What I wonder is what kind of time estimate should I be planning? How many novice man hours? I was a computer (analog ) on submarines so not afraid of wires and switches. But novice auto guy.

I have August and September with no other major commitments except daily golf.

So what do you think it will take. I did buy a harness that is prelabled.

The wiring is original and not looking so great.

To put one back like plain jane factory we figure on one day. Install double contacts for turn signals, heater, radio, and alternator conversion--- two days. Air conditioning, electric wipers, remote electric windows & locks, sound system, alarm, and all the bells and whistles---a week. Being a shop we have all the supplies needed on hand so no time is needed for parts store runs or supply gathering so I would double the above times for a home project. Also no golf breaks, dammit.

I hope you're smart and bought the basic stock harness .

It's very simple , DO NOT forget the firewall grommets as now is the ONLY time you can install them .

Not sure how smart but I am following ol' chebby's "How to wire an AD" thread and bought what was suggested there. The pictorial looks pretty straight forward to me. I have no extras like radio or such.

I do need to order grommets, I will look and see what sponsor has, or is there another good source?

Firewall Grommets & Rubber

Yes , Steele Rubber Co .

They have a clunky OnLine catalog but they also have American made rubber parts that fit and last .

Expect to get caught up in the " Might As Wells " during a re wire project , no worries , you'll be happier in the end .

Sweat the little things and you'll enjoy your 60 year old truck all the more .
