What donor rearend can fit my 55 longbed pick up? I am putting in a 350 motor and 350 tranny and instead of buy just the gears I want to kill two birds with one stone new rearend and 5 lugs with disc brakes if possible. I guess thats 3 birds but you get the picture.
 
I WANTED TO KNOW 1ST OR 2ND SERRIES BECAUSE I WANT TO DO THE SAME THING WITH MY 55 2ND SERIES AND I ALSO NEED THE SAME INFO.
 
a rearend from a 1969 chevy truck is a direct bolt in,can be had with 3.73 gears commonly or 4.10 if you like.Disc brake kits are readily available for 12 bolt chevy.I haven't any idea what width modern axles are in comparison,but you will find that to det a good fit under the fenderwells you will have to be selective.It would be nice if a brand new rea with discs was the right width,which would make it very easy.
 
Hey thanks for the info. I need all the help I can get. I want to change the rearend and now I know that can begin my search for a 69 donor. Thanks again.
 
you also might want to look into like a 79 camaro, that's what I have under my '58 and I have the highway gears and it's also a posi. it measured out to be I think 1/2 to 1 inch wider but I made that up in back spacing on my wheels, now I can go 70 if i want to without wrapping the engine out!
 
Just a side note on the camaro differential. I used 1998 Z28 rear disc brakes on my 50' with a 1980 Camaro 10 bolt differential. They are a bolt on, and use a drum style parking brake. The disc measure 12.5 inches if I remember correctly, so wheel size can be an issue. The only other issue that comes up is the parking brake cables face backwards, and you need to adapt them to the stock setup. It was not that tough to do on mine, especially as I got the whole setup for $50. Just another option....Mike
 
You said you wanted 5 lugs, the 69 is still 6 lug. Went to 5 lugs in 71 but 67-72 all have same dimensions.
