what's in YOUR toolbox??

this may seem like a stupid question, but hey, i'm new to all of this stuff, so make fun of me all you want, i'm asking a BA-ZILLION questions of you smart guys. so, i was wondering what kind of stuff you guys keep in your trucks, you know? like you've gotta have some tools in case something breaks down. maybe a flashlight, maybe a jack? tire iron? tow strap/chain? extra points? fuses? bailing wire and duct tape? i dunno. help me out here. and where do you put all this stuff? thanks guys!!

Bailing wire and duct tape. You're a man after my own heart! But you forgot WD-40. Those are the 3 essentials of life!

WD-40 is crap , use a good penetrant instead

Old coat hangers work pretty well too

Duct tape , get an old roll that's mostly gone , easier to store that way , squash it flat if you want .
I've never needed it on my AD but without it you never know.....

Wire , with alligator clips on each end , will get you home if the wire is like 12' long.....

Pretty much just buy the tools you need and before long you'll have a box full of tools that's not overly large but will be everything you need to repair or tune up your truck .

I carry one of those Foo-Foo Craftsman tool bags in my cab , it is crammed with misc. tools and of course , a tube of hand cleaner and some clean rags for when I'm done .

I rarely use it on my truck but I -do- use those tools all the time as everywhere I go I keep a weather eye out for junk and I find it every where , gotta have the tools ready to strip off that good used part ya know


Under the seat should be _GOOD_ quality jumper cables and jack , etc.

As a mechanic, I don't need to carry any tools, since my vehicles are always in perfect condition. Yeah, and being married with kids, I'm rich too......HaHa. Kidding aside, the bare minimum one should carry in my opinion: jack, spare tire, lug nut wrench, flashlight, some type of cutting knife, length of wire, both types of screwdrivers, duct tape, pliers or crescent wrench, pen or pencil, and at least $20 CASH! I would advise more, but with those minimums, you can at least repair or patch a decent amount of problems long enough to maybe get somewhere safe. Of course space always dictates to a point how much you can keep handy..........Mike
