How much pressure should it take to engage the starter?

I kind of have to slam the pedal to the floor to get it engage the starter. If I push the button down on the starter with my finger the starter spins easily.

Shouldn't take much pressure at all. You should be able to get in the cab, push in the clutch with the left foot, turn the key on, and simultaneously hit the gas pedal and starter pedal with your right foot and hear "Varoom"! If you have to stomp it, consider changing out the starter button on the starter.

When you say "Slam" the pedal down. Is the pedal hard to push? How far do you have to push the pedal before the starter motor start spinning? Is the starter spinning but the gear is not engaging with the flywheel? Sounds like something is out of adjustment if you can easily push the button on the starter with your finger.

That is kinda of what I figured. I have a starter out of a parts truck.....I will take the button off of that and see how it works.

Pedal pushes easy, but I have to get it all the way to the floor before it engages. I will take a look........

There is an adjuster nut on the back of the pedal as I recall.

See where the flat lever pushes on the round starter button? Tape something about 1/8" thick to the lever or have someone hold an something like a paint stirring stick in the gap between the lever and starter button. If it now engages easily it needs adjusting. Many times the hole where the rod on the passengers side fits in the lever is badly wallowed out and doesn't push the lever far enough.
