Are you wanting one under the bed or side mount on bed?

    By the way, WELCOME!!!

Generally, we don't try to give out too much information until you have posted some pictures of your baby...

    Side Mount Spare Support

I don't know where but yes , the details have been posted before .

The original support was made of way too many pieces bolted together , I've also seen many well made side mount supports made of 1/4" steel plate , my '46 3100 had one that never gave me any troubles atall .

If yo are going to mount it on the side, you will need a rear fender that is dished out to accommodate the tire.

I made a spare tire mount out of structural steel, a bit unconventional, but it's hell-for-stout and it's hidden once the tire is bolted to it. I am sure with a few simple changes it would work on your '52.

Check out post #11 here: https://talk.classicparts.com/showthread.php?t=13928

    Hope that helps!

I don't remember who sent this to me, so apologies for not giving credit where due. Here are some pictures and a sketch. First pic shows the top end of angle iron cut and bent to the correct angle to match the sloped top rails of the '49-'53 truck, and the other pictures are of a '54 with the 'flat' top rails on the bed sides. I hope this helps.

I found one in the junk yard. Only gave $20 for it. Keep an eye out and they can be found.

Carefully measure up from the running board to the bottom of the dished in part on a factory one and from the bed side to the inside edge of the dish and mark this on your fender. Cut out with a thin bladed saw, turn upside down and weld back in while doing a little tweaking with a hammer and snips. Best to trial fit with the size of tire your using so the curve can match nicely. When every other van used to have a chrome (metal) spare tire cover side mount spare wells were much easier to fabricate.

    Great find

wow not in california will you ever find one for $20
nate sprinkle some more gold on them and drag that stuff down to the brothers truck show in june.
My side mount is a little bent and the dip in the fender is cut and flipped over the fender was saved it had a big chunk of bondo there before. So i had nothing to loose by cutting and flipping it.nate find all your left over 49 parts and have a big chevy parts yard sale.

    Side Mount Carrier

Saw a few original side mount carriers at Iola swap meet @ $75.00 each. The fella selling them pointed out a very good thing to look out for, 6 or 8 lug wheel.

Front and rear view of one on a half ton. The 3/4 ton had enough room between the cab and fender to fit the spare without all the extra dished in fender and rods attached to mount it.

    spare tire mount

Hi Dean. I've got a side mount spare rack just like the one Charles pictured. It's actually designed for a '54, as the bed sides on that model are 90 degrees at the top. It's been blasted and painted. $75.00 Send me a PM if you're interested. Thanks, Bill Brubaker
