Just joined and looking forward to the discussions. Quick summary:
I just bought a 1954 Chevy truck and need new tires as the ones on there need replacing. Three of the current tire specs are F78-15 and the fourth one is 7.00-15LT. The question is, what is a good tire to replace these with? Thanks up front for the advice.

Do a search for posts started by me. Then look for my thread about new rims and tires. Welcome and post up some pics of your truck.

There has been previous discussion on this so a search might help you. I think, but don't trust my memory, that the 215-85-R15 is a modern tire that is very close to the original in height and width for a 1/2 ton. The "Tire Rack" has charts to convert original sizes to modern sizes. You can plug in an original size of 6.50-16 (or 6.70) and get a modern size in say a 15 inch wheel size. Here is a 53 we did that I'm almost certain has the 215-85-15's and it's close enough the speedometer is correct.
