Little help??

Whats up guys?? got in my truck the other day to start it up and it would'nt start. look under the truck and found what I believ to be the ground wire off the starter has somehow got cut? problem is where does this wire connect too?? I know it comes off the starter but then where?? thanks in advance!!!!!
 
there shouldnt be a ground wire to the starter as far as i know. just he big wire from the battery, then the small one from the ignition switch. the starter should be grounded through its body to the block. though im used to dealing with newer then 60's engines. mine is a 74 400. the fat wire from the bat goes tothe large post on the starter, then the ign start wire goes to a lil clip on the starter. use a voltage checker and have someone turn the key while testing that wire to see if its the start wire. if its really skinny it prolly is. if its fat its prolly the power cable.
 
Thanks drabo I got the link but not sure about the wire; gonna have to pull the starte ; headers are in the way. even still I have not found the other end of the wire?? thanks you too williamb82; the motor in mine is a 283 not sure of the yr. and yes its the skinny one on the peg closet to the block look everywhere still cant find where it goes??

There is a 6g black wire that goes to the center nipple on the soleniod.Good Luck.

check the color of the wire. it may be purple. starter facing you, solenoid on the right. It leads to ignition switch.
 
well its not a ground wire problem; got the wire hooked up and still nothing
I think its got something to do with my ingition; truck does not even want to bump or anyhting but, everything seems to work just won't start???

I think its that little box on the frame above the driver side head light, just dont know what to call it, wait maybe I am that dumb??? :p LOL
Anyway its got something to do with my ingition all lights and gauages work just no start; maybe even the starter siloiand??



hey val; on a differnt note I got a new project in the works and am curious the #'s on the block{behind the head left side} how do you find out what they mean??? #is 39700001 or something like that does this mean its a 397 block?? thanks agin!!!!!

where would this be located and what is it ???
yeah I know {how dumb can this guy be?} I'm still in the learning process; dont know alot about these trucks. thanks for the help!! :D
 
If your truck has an automatic trans, the netural safety switch is located on the bottom of the steering column, upper side, inside the cab.

There are two diffrent harnesses that plug into it. I do belive one is green and one is purple. The purple harness is the safety switch and the green is the back up lights. You can make a jumper with a piece of wire and two male connectors. When you jump this out the truck will start in any gear so be careful.
