Other Vehicles Hiding in the Closet

I know this is a classic truck site, but anyone have pics of other vehicles hanging around their house? Always fun to see what other projects people have going on.

Attached is a pic of my first 'love'. The ultimate money bucket since it's a vehicle with mostly hard-to-find parts. 1969 Caprice 427 5 speed. Complete with green interior (buckets and console tho). Been working on it for 10 years now. The truck I'm working on now is kind of a 'break' from working for years on the Caprice. It's all fun, just good to do something else for awhile. Oh, and it runs low 13s in the quarter mile. I hope the truck doesn't beat it someday!

Ken, well you got me on that one. While I don't have the factory 8-track installed I do have a factory 8-track sitting on my shelf! Only thing I'm missing is the special filler plate between the console and 8-track unit. So...where do I send my address!

Got to get you a picture of one of my guys 427 69 Biscayne 4sp. Radio delete, heater delete, just rubber around the windshield and back window, no trim, dog dish hubcaps, rubber mats, and bench seats with funky covers. It will show your Caprice how the poor relatives looked. I can just see some kid telling his dad that all that stuff would hurt the gas mileage and that he'd NEVER race it.

While we are on the subject, the Houston Chronicle always has an old car article in the Wednesday paper every week. This past one they featured a '62 Chevy bubbletop with a 409 ci 409 hp engine. Barebones with dogbowl hub caps and nothing to soak up any of the 409 horses. What an awesome car. 1 horsepower per cubic inch was almost unheard of back then.

Very few Biscaynes running around. Harder to find than even a Caprice. Would love to see pics of it. I've seen alot of these cars, and not seen one factory heater delete. That would be too cool.

I enjoy the stripped down factory cars, so it's weird to me that I like this Caprice. I've spent lots of time (and unfortunatly $$$) on tracking down options for it. It came well equipped with A/C, power windows and locks, rear defrost. But over time I've collected the 8-track, hidden headlights, tach, and a few other items. Even have cruise control on it. Too much fun!

I didn't mean to make this post solely about my other vehicle. I was hoping others would post some pics on here. Ok, I'll quit feeling selfish now.

If only I could post a video of a dyno run or a quarter mile blast. Site just won't allow that big of a post!

Okay slug I'll chime in and show a few pics of my other projects. Dad bought me a 66 mustang coupe when I was 15 to restore to drive. I think that at the time I got a little bit to involved in racing dirtbikes and chasing women that I just said forget it on the car. Now that I'm really back in the swing of restoring one I decided to fix my truck instead. But I still have the stang (I know it's a ford guys but to me anything from 60's down no matter the brand is a beautiful car) and dad has decided to sell it to put the money into other projects. I also have a 1960 Impala 2dr hardtop that I will most likely keep to restore. It is all numbers matching with 60k miles on it. The bad thing with this car is you have to have VERY deep pockets to afford to restore it. And yes restore, it will be all original. Imagine that a street rodder putting something original what's the world coming to. I'm also selling my motorcycle project that I have finished to fund some of my truck. I'll post pics of both. Enjoy the pics and by all means if you know of anyone looking for either a 66 mustang or a 2001 Vulcan 800 let me know as they are both for sale. Oh yeah you can also see dad's 41 chevy truck in the back ground of the mustang pics.

Okay Kevin,

I'll bite. Describe the "Rustang" for me. 6 or 8. If 8, 2 or 4 barrel. Still has the floors and frame (especially in the rear under the trunk by the rear spring shackles)? How about the frame at the bottom of the shock towers in the front inside the wheel opening (lots of gunk collects in there as the drain hole is way too small and clogs easily). How many miles and does it run or at least turn over? What about the sheet metal and how about some more pics?

'60 chevy impalas are a piece of crap. I'll give you 25 dollars just to haul it off! If you ever want to get rid of it, let me know. I've got more money than sense, and i'm so broke, i can't even pay attention!

I hear ya Ken. I should be paying you $25.00 to haul it off. I only paid $600.00 for the car and I have already $1200.00 just in rear quarter panals alone. I turned down $2500.00 already. I really do love this car because it has a lot of character. It's just something about that big ol boat that I like. I guess it's because you don't see to many around. One thing about it is that it will definately be a money pit and the parts are next to impossible to find, but in the end it will all be worth it.

I think we need some pics of the 60. Any items you are in need of? I've stumbled on a few good places/suppliers over my 10 years of Impala hunting.

Cool ~ I did it ! this is one of those " yes , it's rare -but- that doesn't make ot valuable " typ of cars ~ a 1974 Euro Spec. Mercedes Benz W-107 350SLC Coupe ~ it has a 4 speed stick shift tranny and is one of about 3,000 so produced , not ever sold in No.America .

I LOVE those Caprice pix ! Impalas , BelAirs , Biscaynes , ALL of them !

Don't be in a hurry to dump that 'Stang , they're nice drivers when finished .

Got a soft spot for those Benz's. Had a 70 250C for a year or so. Would have been a fun car if I could have ever gotten that straight six to run properly. I just don't think it liked me...

I agree nate the stang would be a nice driver but our true love is 50's and under. Was 40's and under but I am now really starting to dig the 50's trucks. Plus the money out of the stang would go towards a good cause. Getting dad's truck closer to street drivable. Now the next time I go home I'll try to remember to get a pic of the Impala. I don't know if this site would let me post such a big car on here. Don't know if I can get it to all fit in one picture . That car is HUGE.

Old Benz'

Yeah , the older ones are really nice drivers , even the _sedans_ !

So , you had a # 114 then ? some of those had mechanical FI , others had the Bosch D-Jetronic sysytem my 350SLC does , crude but it works .

I had a 1978 300CD (Diesel Coupe) untill recently , it was a tatty old GPOC but I loved it ~ I took in on a road rally last year and scared the wits out of all the guys I passed.....

I still miss it greatly but this W-107 is much cooler looking and a great driver too even if it's just a beat up old car .

Wow, almost forgot it was a 114 chassis. I really got to know the local MB wholesale parts guy. He got to the point of recognizing my voice when I called. Sheesh!

Mine had the dual carb setup. I can't recall what they were at the moment. I swapped on a set of dual Webers and the same hesitation and poor cold starting continued. As fun as the car was (triple black 2 door...would have been a perfect sleeper candidate) I was glad to see it go after all my headaches with it.

95 % of ALL carby problems are in fact , electrical in nature....
