The root of my "clutch judder"

I think I know why my truck likes to "judder" every now and then. It's been really pissing me off, because I KNOW how to drive a stick.
So hopefully it isn't too hard to replace these mounts.
There is a local welder who can put a stick to the cross member. The mount on the passenger side is held in place by gravity.
It should be so sweet when all this is fixed.
I don't like our dependence on technology, but I love my iphone's ability to get photos of all of this! Cool stuff~

By the way, anyone know where these motor mounts can be had? It could just be me, but it seems our host only shows '54 on up. (?)
 
Thank you, Bill! The first one looks just like it. Of course, so do the rest of them!
It's good to know they are out there and don't cost an arm and a leg.
Guess I won't be driving my truck for a while however...
 
Judder not shudder .

It's a real word, technical term .

Clutch judder is annoying as all get out .

It's like you don't know how to drive a damn stick shift! I can't wait to see how it drives with new rear motor mounts and the cross member welded back up.

Don't feel bad Zig. I once had a sleeve, around the pilot bearing on a Kenworth, I owned, come out and leave the pilot bearing with about a 3/16" gap all the way around it. That made the clutch grab so bad, it was literally "in", or "out". No matter how easy you let the clutch pedal out, it would grab, and the truck would just jump. Talk about looking like an amateur! Not to mention, the abuse on the whole driveline. And I couldn't figure it out, until I pulled the transmission, and clutch. I could hear a rattle in the clutch, but, couldn't see it.

Sorry I didn't take pictures. I know how you require pictures. But, I assure you, it did happen.

Nah, if it was British it would make no matter what it was or where it was located it would leak oil. GM inline sixes had a terrible mounting system---essentially a 3 point mount since the front was two bolts nearly touching each other. My 37 Buick is a 235 with two extra cylinders with the same mounting so I welded extensions onto each side of the timing cover mount plate and then used flat head Ford mount cushions at the end of the extensions. Of course a couple months after giving it "the cure" my BW decided she would like to drive it on occasions so in went an automatic which would have cured the Judder without all the sweat, cuss words, cuts and burns. I've given her 48 years to shape up and if she doesn't shape up in the next 25 it's turning serious.

During the Christmas break I will install new mounts and hope to be impressed. Next stop, welder to beef up the cross member.
As far as our host and their motor mounts, I will have to take a closer look.
What I like about what I found is it specifically said GMC, not just Chevy.
Not sure there is a bit of difference, but~~~
 
I've yet to take a close look at the front mounts, but Christmas break is right around the corner. I'll have to work in some quality time with my truck.

BTW Bill, I actually set a bedside on a pair of saw horses and have installed a 3M wheel. I'm ready to slowly start stripping paint/rust.

Also, I was able to find out when I take a fall, (which I didn't even do the first time I tried rollerskating) I do it in dramatic fashion.
Back a couple of weeks ago, I was mulching up our leaves and was backing up when I tripped over a little bitty stump from a bush I had cut down.
Went back so fast I didn't even think of letting go of the lawnmower.
I reached back with my right hand to break my fall, but ended up screwing my wrist up really bad.
Nothing broke, but it still feels like it did shortly after it happened.
No swapping out mounts for me anytime soon. #frown#
 
OUCH ! .

I managed to shatter my wrist/hand/two bones in my arm along with the rest of the breaks, I can't make a fist any longer and wonder if I'll ever ride my Moto again ~ follow the O.T. Therapist's painful and difficult instructions, this is a serious injury you have .
