Is there any kindly American persons over there want to help a poor Brit who cannot locate the emergency brake rods for his 50' 1/2 ton, the small rods, and springs, that fit on the front shoe and rest against the emergency brake swing arm, anyone got some or willing to get some for me then post/ship them over here, im really stuck now, been posting on all English sites and phoning round but no luck. Does anyone feel sorry enough to help??????????? Neil ________ MAGIC FLIGHT LAUNCH BOX
Neil, i'm not quite sure what you are asking here, but go to the online catalog here and put this number in the search box 71-891. If this isn't what you're looking for, let us know.
Thanks Ken, but its not what im after, no one seems to do these bits, its the bars that sit in between the rear shoes, one end fits through a hole in the leading shoe with a clip holding it on, the other end rests against the swing arm attached to the brake cable. The bars sit just below the wheel cylinder, im getting all this from the manual pictures as mine dont exist! Thanx Neil ________ Vaporizer Help
P.S we just had the biggest hot rod parts site gone down over here, run out of bandwidth so it could be sometime before its back up and running, everyone used to post their parts for sale on here, got a lot of bits from guys who changed direction half way through building on there. Perfect timing eh ________ Volcano Vaporizers
Forgive me, Neil, for sometimes i am as thick as a brick. You're talking about the parking brake push rod which has a spring attached to it on the end that is to the rear of the wheel and attaches to the push rod lever, right?
Well it sits in between the two brake shoes, just below the cylinder and above the half shaft. going by the photos in the manual, it is round and bent 90 deg to go through the front shoe with a hole for a clevis pin in it, and the other end looks like its flat and forked to sit against the arm thats attached to the brake cable, so that as you pull the cable the arm pushes against the part i want and forces the front shoe out against the drum, Hope that gives you a better idea, Neil ________ BLONDE VIDEOS
Neil, go to this link. i think we're talking about the same parts. http://chevy.tocmp.com/1949brakes/49bdsm16.htm if part no. 14 and 15 are what you're looking for, i think you can expand the scope of your search because, if i'm not mistaken, the rear brake parts on 1950 and prior years all the way back to 1936 or so used the same setup. let me know if you can't pull the diagram up with the link i gave you. Ken
i just tried my own link here and it didn't work. go to www.chevy.tocmp.com once you get there, scroll down to the 1949 delco brakes service manual. page 16 of that manual shows the diagram i was referring to.
Try this link: http://www.chevy.tocmp.com/1948_51truckshop/index.htm and look at the brake section. This should give you some answers. I believe that the diagram that is being referred to is different than what is on a 1950 3100. Are your brake adjusters on the wheel cylinder or the bottom? Mike
Firstly, yes parts 15 & 14 of the delco manual is the part i need, BUT......... Now its getting confusing, my manual seems to show the same as the online manual, it seems to attach to the front shoe through a hole next to the wheel cylinder, the same hole as the emergency brake swing arm goes through on the rear shoe, if you catch my drift, ie; the shoe can be used for the rearward facing with the swing arm bolting thru this hole or the shoe can be fitted on the front facing side with the part i need in this hole, The type shown in the delco manual needs cut-outs in the shoes for it to locate in, but my shoes don't have these cut-outs! mine have holes higher up in line with the cylinders, so i need one end to have a rod at 90deg to go thru the shoe. Does that clear it up???????????? Neil ________ LESBIAN AGGRESSIVE
Neil, the chevy master parts catalog calls the part "extension-strut, parking brake shoe lever. Group number 5.150 part number 475481 (LH), part number 475482 (RH). The springs are group number 5.151 part number 476104. I know Obsolete Chevrolet Parts Co. (Nashville, Georgia) sells the struts and springs for '51-59 chevy trucks (which will not fit) but you might want to contact them to see if they might have some stuck back somewhere in the warehouse. Most of their stuff is listed in their catalog by GM group #'s and parts #, so having the #'s would probably be a big help. I would also do the same with Chevs of the 40s. Happy hunting my friend!
Have a 50 1/2 ton that we used as a guinea pig for our first S10 conversion. If it has the round rods instead of the flat forked bars they're yours for shipping costs. Also a 48 rear somewhere in the scrap pile. If all else fails, could you use backing plates with everything on them? Nate could probably say if the backing plate swap will work.
Coilover, what can i say, your a diamond, if you can help dont be suprised if i offer to marry you or have your children! I hope you have good news for me soon. Neil ________ Glass pipes
Damnit, Neil, warn a person before you say stuff like that! Now i've gotta go get a rag to wipe the beer off my computer screen (the beer that came out of my nose because i laughed so hard!)
brake parts Brit50, sorry for the delay, been very hectic getting a 1912 International ready for show. Will look tomorrow, monday October 2nd, and let you know if pieces correct. I'm so fat and lazy anymore that I want to scoop the parts vehicles up with the big forklift and set them in the shop where they're on a concrete floor and can use air tools. Spoiled rotten American I guess. As to the other proposition, I'll tell you what I tell our waitress at the local cafe--I'll help clear the table and pick up the tip but absolutely no hiney pinching (she said it helps with the tip).
Thanx just for looking, realy apreciate it, if you find the right bits i will be packing the wedding dress and on the next flight! Neil ________ Herbalaire reviews
Interesting , I wonder if you have a Bendix brake upgrade (look at pix of '51 and newer brakes) or just a different version of the Huck linkage . In either case yes the entire brake backing plate if loaded , is a bolt up swap , you should use the other drums too . -Nate
Well I ordered the hucky brake shoes from classic and they do not have the shapes and cut-outs on the inner part of the shoe like the bendix style. To be honest, I dont know what the part im after looks like, I have only gleaned what info i can from pics and diagrams in manuals etc. All i do know it that one end has a rod that fits through the front shoe, but i am asuming it has on the other end, the same forked end that later brakes have, to sit against the swing arm. But what do i know, im a Brit!!!! ________ Bdsm Japanese
So ; Go to Obsolete Chevrolet Parts Co. @ www.obschevy.com and look at thier '51 > pictures and see if your brakes match those if so ~ you're in luck ! you have Bendix brakes... Once again we ask : are your adjuster stars on the hydraulic cylinders or at the bottom of the shoes ? . Looking in the Obs. Chev. catalog I see the bar with the 90° bend in one end and a fork on t'other , text says " Parking brake lever extension 1936 ~ 1950 (That's Huck brakes) and it has a clear picture of it on P. 41....
