***Update (w/pics) on rusty/ratty 48 ***

I realized I need more switches (electric fan and hazard lights), but didn't want them mounted just anywhere. I squeezed them in my new "seat dash"

It was a tight fit trying to fit them in the switch panel that was not designed for any extra stuff. I made a cardbodrd template that was the same size as the switch and used a cener punch to find a spot where the switches fit.

The dash-dash now has idiot lights. The outside ones are for turn signals, the inner ones are oil pressure and water temperature.

The truck cranked and ran on the first try!!!

Glass is next. I got all new glass and weatherstrip in the mail on Friday (Classic Parts of course!). I had planned on starting the glass install today but found some nasty rot under the old seals that I have to fix.....next weekend.

When are you going to post up some pix of the rear turn signal illuminated ? in the dusk please...

Like whatcha done there.

One tiny thing......if i may be so bold:o...... i would make a metal cover over the rear of those switches if they are under the seat, but im paranoid about fire hazards.
 
Man, my back started hurting just looking at the pics of you wiring things up. I know the name of a good chiroprator, but he's in New York!;)

I was a little concerned myself. :) That is one of the reasons why the switch panel has that much angle on it....to get the switches down out of reach of my butt.

My back doesn't feel it, but the top of my head is as sore as all get out. I don't know if I hit something sharp down there or it was 200 lbs of gravity mashing on my scalp :)

Classic Parts.

It still needs a little more love to get seated just a tad more. The center rubber strip doesn't quite make it back to the center divider. I know what I need to do....lube everything back up and work the seals outward and the glass back into the opening.

With any luck, it will be "finished" after this weekend. .....and ready for louisville and frog follies.

I need to:

1) seat the front windshield a little better (the center rubber doesn't rest on the metal divider yet).

2) Install side windows.

3) make some simple door panels/armrest.

4) make a shifter boot.

5) quickly plug some of the holes in the firewall.

6) install some of that bubble insulation.

7) Install wally-world carpet.

8)take pictures for insurance

Yeah, its gonna be a rough couple of days....but I let it come down to the wire again.

I pretty much have all of the stuff I need to finish the truck....I just need to do it.
 
Man, what a hot nasty weekend for working on a truck!

I started out by making a ton of plugs for all of the holes in the firewall.

Yes this was fresh, clean metal a day earlier. 100% humidity sucks! I welded them in from inside the cab to preserve the 60 year old dirt on the firewall.

Then I installed bubble wrap.

Then installed most of the carpet. I still need to cut pieces for the firewall. I also attempted to make door panels, but the clips I had were too short and didn't really work.

Dad didn't want me doing burnouts on the concrete, so we rutted up the yard :) One set was mine, the other was his!
