OK, it might cost you 42 cents for a stamp to send a drawing. We have a problem with reproduction window felt channels wanting to bend unevenly and the sides flaring out so the window trim ring is hard to put on. I fabricated this from scrap wood and it works great. The one pictured is for a 47-50 so the center piece is 0.350 to fit the metal frame around the window. For the 51-55.1 the center piece would be 0.250 to fit the glass. A plastic hammer seems to work the best to form the felt channel to the pattern--note the very even wrinkles on the sides of the channel with the 90 degree bend.
Now that is slick! That ranks up there with sliced bread and pockets on a shirt. Thanks for sharing that Evan!
Way cool Evan - I'm glad I haven't started that project yet. I was just planning on rolling the window up to form the beast, but this looks like a sure fire way to control the warping. Thanks, Larry
Is there any way for you to post the template so I may make one at home? If not I would gladly send a stamp for the template. Thank you!!
I wish I could but I am a computer cave man. Would be glad to sketch one up and send it by snail mail. Here is a quick discription; if it isn't decipherable let me know and I'll send a sketch. (1) The center piece is a copy of the glass (2) The pieces on either side of the center piece are 1/2" smaller and the total of the center piece plus the two pieces attached to it equal the total width of the felt channel. (3) The two outer pieces are the same size as the center piece (window glass). By looking at the picture I think you will see this but if it gives a problem let me know. I have a 51-55.1 window I can measure and give you the dimensions.
Evan~ that saved me a bunch of improper language use, I'm sure. I would have never been able to see the problems I would have faced until it was too late! Thanks for the heads-up and a simple way to solve it. BTW, I love the coups in the background! What a shop!
