1949 Chevy 3600......making it a daily driver!!

checked all the pics of your build wow a ton of cool work .i like the idea of drop axle with disc brakes.
any plans for the duel intake manifold/visor?

I have a 4 barrel intake and carb right now, but would like to find a 3 deuce setup at some point.

I have a visor as well, but am not 100% sold on how it looks.

Think I have all my bases covered. I just have a couple loose ends.

Any suggestions on what to use as a throttle pedal?

TH350 transmission to a 4 x 4 blazer rear end. Any idea's on a approx driveshaft length or a suggested donor?

driveshaft

The driveshaft I used was out of a 90s chevy impala $22.00 out of a pick a part junk yard np cutting just new u joints

Driveshaft

Mike, I put basically the same driveline as you in my 3600 and I used a driveshaft out of a early 90's regular cab Chevy pickup. Had to change the yoke to TH 350 yoke and it bolted in.

Looking Good Coach !

I think the frame boxing was a terrific idea , you might consider doing that for the steering box area too .

Not going to replace the timing chain , sprockets and cover seal ? .

Spent some time today cleaning up the frame for paint.

63 years of grease, oil and dirt covered the drivers side. Between a wire wheel on my 4-1/2" grinder, a putty knife and a healthy combination of degreaser and some hot water I got it clean.

I fought rain showers all day....

After the degreasing and cleaning I sprayed the frame down with KBS Rust Blaster and rinsed it again with hot water.

I rolled it into the shop and let it dry for a couple hours and brushed on a coat of KBS Coatings Satin Black. Turned out pretty good. I will follow up with a couple more coats over the weekend.

All my gaskets and misc parts showed up for the 350, so I hope to start buttoning that up this weekend as well. Maybe even get it painted!!

looks good

was there any issues when you put in the drop axle and did you have to change the master cylinder?

valve covers

patina chevy orange a new coat of paint and they will look nice

I took the day off work and got some stuff accomplished.

I ended up damaging the rear brake line when I put in the tranny cross member, so I re did that. The passenger front brake line was routed next to the old tranny cross member, so that had to be redone as well.

I drilled the holes and bolted in the new transmission cross member. I bolted on the new aluminum intake to the SBC, as well as installed a new oil pan gasket.

I installed the stall converter on the TH350, and was ready to bolt the flex plate to the engine when I realized the bolts are 7/16" fine thread. None of those in my bolt bin.

Oh well.......I will get it done tomorrow and toss the motor and tranny in.

My HEI Distributor and plug wires showed up from Speedway. Sure nice having those guys only 1 shipping day away.

I am running an aluminum water pump, measures like a short pump. I picked up a pulley today at the junkyard, but it looks like I would need to space out the pulley 5/8" to match the crank pulley. Does not make sense. The pulley came off a mid 70's GMC truck with a SBC.

Any advice on mufflers? I plan on piecing together the exhaust myself. The local muffler guy wants almost $500. I can weld and bend pipe.......only concerned about flaring.

Glad to see you back on here with your great photo progress shots! I know someday I will be installing a V8 (hopefully 283) in mine, and seeing what your doing is a great visual "how to". Thanks for taking the time to do this for us.

Pretty good day despite distractions and multiple trips to the hardware store.

Got the bolts to mount up the flex plate and got the tranny attached to the motor.

Everything went together fairly smooth.

I did overlook during mockup that the fuel pump would hit the frame. A quick cut with the jig saw and some grinding and it was fixed.
